Frequently Asked Questions

If you’re concerned about the air you breathe at home, you’re not alone. Indoor air can contain hidden contaminants like mold, allergens, VOCs, and radon that affect both comfort and health. These frequently asked questions from ProCheck IAQ explain how professional indoor air quality testing works, what symptoms to watch for, what to expect during an assessment, and how expert guidance can help you identify problems and take clear steps toward a healthier home environment.

What is ProCheck IAQ?

ProCheck IAQ is a professional indoor air quality inspection and consulting service that helps homeowners identify problems with mold, allergens, VOCs, radon, and overall air health. We use scientific testing and certified laboratories to give clear, actionable results.

What symptoms may indicate poor indoor air quality in my home?

Common signs include headaches, sinus congestion, fatigue, coughing, musty odors, persistent allergies, respiratory irritation, or symptoms that improve when you leave the home. These may signal issues with mold, VOCs, or other air contaminants.

What types of tests does ProCheck IAQ offer?

We offer comprehensive indoor air testing, including:

  • Mold testing (air & surface)

  • VOC and chemical testing

  • Radon measurement

  • Allergen testing (dust mites, pet dander, pollen, etc.)

  • Whole-home IAQ assessments
How does a mold test work?

The inspector reviews areas of mold concerns with the client then inspects the house for potential sources.

We collect indoor air samples and/or surface swabs using professional equipment. These samples are analyzed by a certified lab to determine mold species, spore count, and whether levels are elevated compared with normal conditions. Results in 24 business hours.

When should I schedule an indoor air quality assessment?

You should consider testing if you have unexplained health symptoms, recent water damage, visible mold, strange odors, chemical smells, or if you’ve recently renovated or installed new building materials.

Do you help interpret results and provide solutions?

Yes. We don’t just give you data — we provide clear explanations of results and step-by-step recommendations to improve your home’s air quality.

What happens during the free 15-minute discovery call?

You will be required to answer a 2 page online assessment that I will review prior to our call. We can discuss symptoms and concerns and I will recommend the most appropriate testing package.

What if I already have other test results?

If you have test results from another provider, you can directly schedule a consultation call.  The consultation meeting includes 2 hours of test review prior to our meeting.

What if I prefer to have someone else do my testing?

If you have a preferred vendor you should absolutely have them do your testing. My speciality lies in understanding the tests, not actually doing them. We review your symptoms, concerns, home age, known issues, and any visible signs of contamination. From there, we recommend the most appropriate testing package.

Is indoor air quality testing worth it?

We spend a majority of our time indoors so it is imperative to know what is in the air you breathe. Testing identifies hidden contaminants so you can fix the root cause, not just the symptoms.

How long does indoor air quality testing take?

Most onsite testing takes 30-60 minutes depending on your home’s size and the number of tests performed. Lab results typically arrive within a few days.

Do you offer radon testing?

Yes. Radon testing is one of our core services. Radon is the second leading cause of lung cancer, so accurate testing is essential for home safety.

What are VOCs and why are they dangerous?

VOCs (volatile organic compounds) are gases released from products like paint, cleaning supplies, flooring, furniture, and adhesives. High VOC levels can cause headaches, dizziness, allergic reactions, and long-term health issues.

Can new homes have poor air quality?

Yes. New construction materials often off-gases chemicals and VOCs, leading to elevated chemical exposure. Freshly built or remodeled homes are some of the most common environments we test.

Does ProCheck IAQ test for allergens?

Yes. We test for common household allergens including mold spores, dust mites, pet dander, pollen, and fibers that can trigger allergy attacks.

How accurate are ProCheck IAQ’s tests?

We use professional indoor air testing equipment and partner exclusively with accredited 3rd party laboratories. This ensures precise, unbiased, scientific findings.

Will mold testing tell me what type of mold I have?

Yes. Lab analysis is spore count type and identifies species as well as determining whether levels are normal or elevated. Please refer to our sample test.

Do you offer both onsite inspections and remote consultations?

Yes. We perform onsite testing and offer virtual consultations for reviewing results, giving recommendations, and building IAQ improvement plans.
